The geometric play created by Air couches and the sinuosity of Aspen couch by Cassina, the light projected from Tuareg lamp by Foscarini and the two Counterbalance by Luceplan induce those who stay in work of fiction, imagine being in the night, along with the protagonists of the Leopard, to waltz whirling among family furnitures.
On 5th of April 1943, during the second world war, it was destroyed by bombs and remained in ruins until 2011. The mother of Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa was so tied to this building by choosing to live there even after the bombing, in her rooms that had miraculously remained standing and there she died.
It is said that the Prince, after seeing the ruins of his Lampedusa house, walked for three kilometers, covered with dust, in his eyes the war and the rubble of the rooms where he was born. He didn’t talk for three days and he suffered melancholy for all his life.
In the book “Memories of childhood” Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa evokes the beauty
of what he calls the “Disappearance Amata”, he mentions the arrangement of the
original rooms.
It describes smells and colors, and the feeling he felt as a child to master all that space that looked like a kingdom.
In those pages we read:
“After seventy years Palazzo Lampedusa has been reconstructed with the purpose of the revival of the ancient residence of the prince and the two Lago Apartment Welcome were derived precisely from those rooms “survived” the bombing.
The wide interior spaces and the exterior, faithfully reported to the ancient glory, will give the traveller the sensation, even for a short stay, to relive the sound and the places where the Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa spent his childhood described within the majestic houses with gold tooling, adorned with tall windows and balconies from the subtle into the ancient mirrors spotted by staff that made the palace and where he passed in review the vast halls one by one, then descended the stairs, strictly curved, and he found himself in the base, between the green of the garden.
During all life, Tomasi di Lampedusa tried to come to the idyll already described: solitary and taciturn, often richly dressed, was wandering in new dwellings lazing; now in the hands of a volume, now a letter, now a folded letter a volume. Never he had a committent, a large work, a responsability larger than read or write, he was wandering, yamned, reflecting on idyll between childhood and youth.
Not be understood nor his masterpiece, “The Leopard”, nor much of the slender stories if you do not reflect on what weight have had the years spent in the golden house, with the Sicilian sun beating intense on the big clock in the living room: blissful state and peaceful, uterine as it was protected, will be eternal and unquenchable melancholy of adult days, as an old man, old man.” (David Gilmour, in the book The last leopard”)
For the owner was instinctive choose Lago for the interior design because she loves so much Lago design and materials. Intuition, then led her to seek the solution to make available the two apartments to anyone wishing to experience captivating experience and exciting than a stay in Palermo in the “House Amata”
Together with the friend Iana, the architect Marco Bennici of studio Troja and Alessandro Currò and Luca Ferigo from Lago design, they have arranged in every single detail the interior spaces to convey strong emotions to be committed in the memory.
